President Donald Trump has once again spoken out against transgender athletes competing against women, once again taking aim at weightlifters.

But this time, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani found himself in the crosshairs.

Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Trump attacked trans athletes, saying “men” competing in “women’s sports” were “finished.” He did, however, say that a “man” won “one of those one-day races” by five hours and 18 seconds “the other day.”

“How about weightlifting? 218 pounds by a woman is a lot to lift over your head. 218 pounds, or whatever, was the record. A man broke the record by 100 pounds. That lasted about 17 years or something. A man broke the record by 100 pounds. He was a failed male weightlifter, but as a woman he did very well,” said Trump, imitating a weightlifter. “People are crazy.

“And Mamdani, whatever his name is, in New York. He thinks it’s wonderful to have men playing women’s sports.”

It’s unclear which race or weightlifting event Trump was talking about. Mamdani has made no public comments about transgender athletes in women’s sports. A representative for Mamdani did not immediately respond to an email from PK Press Club Digital.

He appeared to reference the fact that the University of Pennsylvania stripped transgender swimmer Lia Thomas of the school’s women’s records earlier this year.

“Swimming is good too. Records are being broken by numbers that no one thought were possible. But a lot of those records are being brought back to where they should be,” Trump said.

Trump spoke out against trans weightlifters at the University of Alabama earlier this year, posing as a trans weightlifter and a trans weightlifter, and reenacting a scenario in which the woman loses a competition to a trans opponent.

Mamdani is expected to become the city’s next mayor in January after defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
