New York: In a dramatic decision, the administration of American president Donald Trump prevented Harvard University from registering foreign students.

The decision affects more than a quarter of the university student body and marks a serious confrontation between Trump and one of the most famous schools in America.

Trump says that Harvard refused to respect the rules and authorized an environment on the campus which he claims to be dangerous for Jewish students and support radical opinions.

Trump is furious at Harvard – who produced 162 winners of the Nobel Prize – for having rejected his request that he submits to the surveillance of admissions and the hiring of his affirmations according to which it is a hearth of anti -Semitism and liberal ideology “awake”.

“Coming immediately, the certification of the Student and Exchange Visitor program (SEVIS) of Harvard University is revoked,” wrote Kristi Noem, secretary to internal security, in a letter to the institution of Ivy League, referring to the main system by which foreign students are authorized to study in the United States.

Last month, Trump threatened from preventing Harvard from registering foreign students if they did not accept government requests that would put private institution under foreign political supervision.

“As I explained to you in my April letter, it is a privilege to register foreign students,” wrote Noem.

“All universities must comply with the requirements of the Ministry of Homeland Security, including the requirements to declare the program for students and exchanges, to maintain this privilege,” she said.

“Due to your refusal to comply with several requests to provide the relevant information from the Ministry of Internal Security while perpetuating a dangerous campus environment which is hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-Hamas sympathies and uses this privilege of diversity and racist equity and inclusion ”, you have lost this privilege.”

According to university data, more than 27% of Harvard registrations were made up of foreign students during the university year 2024-2025.

Harvard did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
