US President Donald Trump said he would start talking to China on Monday or Tiktok agreement on Monday or Tuesday.
He said that the United States “roughly” had an agreement on the sale of the Tiktok Short-Video application.
“I think we are going to start on Monday or Tuesday […] Speaking to China, perhaps President Xi Jinping or one of his representatives, but we would have roughly an agreement, “Trump told journalists on Air Force One.
Last month, Trump extended a deadline for Bytedance based in China until September 17 to sell the American active assets of Tiktok.
An agreement had been in progress this spring to run Tiktok American operations in a new American company, belonging to the majority and operated by American investors, but it was suspended after China indicated that it would not approve of it following Trump’s steep price announcements.
Trump said the United States will probably have to get an agreement approved by China.
When he was asked how confident he was that China would accept an agreement, he said: “I am not confident, but I think yes”.
“President XI and I have an excellent relationship, and I think it’s good for them. I think the agreement is good for China and it’s good for us.”
Last week, during an interview with the Fox NewsPresident Trump claimed to have found a buyer for the Tiktok.
The American president said that the agreement he developed would probably need China’s approval to move forward and predicted that President Xi would likely approve it.
