Twelve dead, six injured while the roofs collapsed in the rain in Lahore

At least 12 people were killed and six others injured in three separate incidents with the collapse of the roof in Lahore during the night, emergency officials announced on Wednesday.

The 1122 rescue teams responded to calls from the village of Muridwal, to Mission Colony on Raiwind Road and Kot Jamal early Wednesday morning. The collapses occurred during a period of sustained precipitation across the city.

According to Farooq Ahmed, spokesperson for Punjab’s rescue, emergency calls were received at 1:51 am from Muridwal, at 4:35 a.m. of Mission Colony, and at 4:52 a.m. from Kot Jamal.

In the village of Muridwal near Thokar Niaz Baig, five people died when the roof of a house collapsed. The deceased was identified as a 60 -year -old manga, his wife Ishrat, 55, Khadija, three, four -year -old Latifa and Rani, 35. Two people, Faisal, 30 and five -year -old sparkling, were injured and moved to the hospital.

In Mission Colony, three people died and one was injured. The deceased was identified as Nasreen, 70, Meerab, eight years, and Basheer, 80, while Fareed, 21, was rescued and hospitalized.

During the third incident at Kot Jamal, Basheer, 35, lost his life, while Nadeem, 32, Sonia, 29, and suede, eight years old, were removed from the rubble and taken to the hospital.

In addition, in Mominpura on GT Road, a fourth collapse of the roof was reported. Three people, namely Saleem Masih, 36, Nusrat Bibi, 34 and Sahil Masih, 14, were confirmed dead.

Rescue 1122 said that its urban research and rescue team had been deployed on the site and used live locally technology in efforts to recover those trapped.

The emergency services service, under the direction of secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer, has placed all the districts on high alert in the middle of continuous precipitation.

Officials have urged the public to avoid low areas and ensure children’s safety. It has also been recalled that citizens quickly call for rescue 1122 in an emergency.

Strong rain alerts remain in force

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had expressed weather alerts for July 16 and 17, warning strong precipitation to very strong in Punjab, notably Lahore and Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and certain parts of cashmere.

According to forecasts, showers can trigger urban floods, especially in the low areas of Lahore, Gujranwala, Siackot, Faisalabad and Multan. Wind storms could also damage structures such as electric posts, solar panels and standing crops.

A well-marked low pressure zone is currently located in northeast of Punjab, supported by a West wave, bringing strong monsoon currents through central and superior Pakistan. The system should persist over the next 24 to 36 hours.

PMD reported 123 mm of precipitation at Lahore airport and 72 mm in the city, while Sheikhupura recorded an amazing 217 mm and Okara 170 mm among the heaviest in the province.

The officials urged the public to avoid the areas exposed, to ensure the safety of drainage around their home and to quickly report the emergencies.
