Two dead and 20 injured in IED explosion in Bannu

Police said the IED was placed in a Zaranj rickshaw in front of one of the shops near Miryan police station.

Two people, including a child, were killed and at least 20 others injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a Zaranj rickshaw exploded near the main gate of Miryan police station in Bannu on Monday morning.

The police deployed a large contingent to secure the area and open an investigation. They added that a rickshaw packed with explosives was used in the attack.

“There are shops located outside the Miryan police station,” said Bannu Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan. An IED was planted on a Zaranj rickshaw parked in front of one of the shops, he added.

“Police personnel present at the site were unhurt in the blast,” DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan confirmed. After the blast, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has condemned the blast which took place in front of Miryan police station in Bannu district.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s House, Kundi expressed sadness over the death of two people in the explosion.

He offered prayers for the deceased and their families, praying for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and patience for the bereaved.

The governor expressed sincere sympathy and condolences to the relatives of the victims and said provincial leaders shared the grief of the families affected by the blast.

He also denounced those responsible, saying the terrorists are enemies of humanity and the peace of the province.

Separately, terrorists destroyed a bridge on Monday evening on the main Tank-Wana road in Tank by planting explosives at the Kot Hakim location.
