Two people were killed when firefighters attacking a fire were ambushed by an unknown number of armed mans in an ongoing confrontation in the northwest state of the United States of Idaho on Sunday, local sheriff said.
He was not immediately clear if there was an armed man or more, said the Sheriff Bob Norris at a press conference, adding that civilians may have been struck during the incident that takes place in an area of the nature of Alene.
“We are ready to neutralize this suspect who is currently actively drawing on public security personnel,” said Norris.
The secretary of the Department of Internal Security, Kristi Noem, was informed of the shooting in Idaho, ABC News reported.
The firefighters received the first call from a fire around 1:21 p.m. local time, said Norris, and about 40 minutes later, reports emerged that they had been slaughtered.
“This is an odious direct assault against our brave firefighters,” said the governor of Idaho, Brad Little, on X. “I ask all the Idahoans to pray for them and their families while we are waiting to find out more.”
He did not give more details on the victims or the way the incident took place.
“While this situation is still developing, please stay away from the region to allow the police and firefighters to do their job,” added Little.
