The Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday killed two highly wanted terrorists linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a successful intelligence operation in Tank district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
According to a statement issued by the CTD, after receiving information about the presence of the terrorists in the area, the team launched an operation. During the operation, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the CTD team, leading to a gunfight that lasted for around 40 minutes.
“After the firing ended, a search operation recovered the bodies of two terrorists, identified as Imdadullah and Tauqeer, affiliated with the TTP Mushtaq group,” the statement said.
No casualties were reported among CTD staff. However, from the terrorists, the CTD recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, cartridges and two cartridge belts.
The statement also confirmed that the terrorists were involved in several high-profile attacks, including an IED strike that killed five police officers, the kidnapping of police officers at Government Girls Middle School in Rori, and the bombing of a police van, where two police officers were killed.
“They were also linked to attacks on a police mobile in Dera Tank, an attack on a convoy of judges on Tank Road, as well as the targeted killing of Police Chief Aziz and the kidnapping and murder of Constable Rehan,” the statement added.
The Inspector General of KP and the Additional IG of CTD congratulated the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams for their success.
“Our forces remain vigilant and are always ready to ensure public safety. Such operations will continue to bring terrorists to justice,” they said.
Terrorism has increased significantly in Pakistan, especially in KP and Balochistan, in recent years. The rise in terrorist activities has led to growing concerns about the security situation in these regions.
In response, security forces have carried out intensive operations to counter the threat, targeting terrorist groups infiltrating from the Afghan border.
The federal government has consistently raised its voice at international forums against terrorist sanctuaries operating in Afghanistan and using its soil to launch attacks against Pakistan – a development attested by the United Nations Security Council.
