In a successful operation by security forces in the Teri Mangal region in the Kurram district, two terrorists, namely Hafeez-Uhman and Wajid Gul, were killed, the security forces announced on Tuesday.

The two were sought after as part of the teachers’ shooting and had RS5 million bonuses each on their heads, according to security officials.

Security sources said the two men were part of a group responsible for the murder of five teachers at Teri Mangal in 2023. During the fire exchange, a local resident was injured with a ball injury to the leg.

In May 2023, six teachers were killed during attacks from the Haut de Kurram. Officials said it started with a teacher’s car, Muhammad Sharif, on Solozan Road.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government had announced bonuses for Hafeez-Ur-Rehman, Wajid Gul and three others in July 2024.

The security forces said that new measures were taken to maintain peace in the region and that operations will continue to the complete elimination of terrorists.

Recent violence in the region

In a separate incident last week, an explosion of the road bomb in the Sharamkhel district on the Plawar, also in Upper Kurram, killed four people and injured four others, police announced.

According to the policeman of the Malik Habib district, the explosion occurred while the victims headed for a neighboring hill to collect the firewood. Two horses were also killed in the explosion.

The deceased was identified as Nawab Ali, Amir Hussain, Hidayat Hussain and Manzar Ali. Three of the injured were then transferred to Peshawar for specialized care, according to officials at the Parachinar DHQ hospital.

Violence in Kurram has increased in recent months. In December, more than 100 people were killed in tribal clashes that left parts of the region isolated for weeks.
