- The United Kingdom’s IA security institute is now the IA security institute
- The name change represents a change towards cybersecurity
- Anthropic also joined the government
The new Labor government has done everything on AI since it was taken in 2024 and was supported by the British IA security institute (AISI) – but not much longer. The institution will remain, but the government has announced that this will now be renamed in the United Kingdom Safety Institute of AI – signaling a final change to cybersecurity.
But what is the difference? Well, security focuses on defense against things such as cyber attacks and attenuation of security risks, including the way technology can be exploited against national security or can allow crimes such as fraud or development chemical weapons.
Safety has a slightly wider range – also to alleviate the risks of cyber attacks, but go further to protect itself against disinformation widespread by chatbots, and aims to assess the societal impacts of AI models, rather than threats Immediate cybersecurity.
New partnerships
The largely publicized change plan of the United Kingdom, published in January 2025, relied heavily on AI, introducing “ growth zones ”, putting public data to form models and aimed at seeing AI “ Parties in the veins ” of public services-but not once only once only once only the document mentioned the words “damage”, “security” or “threat”, Techcrunch note.
Despite these omissions, the work of the IA security institute is still the same, explains the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle;
“The work of the IA security institute will not change, but this renewed orientation will guarantee that our citizens – and those of our allies – are protected from those who would seek to use AI against our institutions, our democratic values And our way of life. “”
As part of the new plan, the Government has accepted a new partnership with the Société d’Ia Anthropic, working to “realize the opportunities for technology, with continuous emphasis on development and deployment responsible for AI systems”. This will include “information” on how AI can “transform public services and improve the life of citizens”, as well as scientific development.
This is part of the United Kingdom’s ambition to attract technological investments around the world – trying to promote a perfect environment for AI innovation, apparently without safety regulations.
