Over the past week, 128 players were reduced to just 16 during qualifying. Perhaps the best story of the lot was that of Scott Donaldson, who came from 5-0 down to beat former world champion Stuart Bingham 6-5. Stephen Maguire, who started the season impressively in July with a Championship League victory, has also progressed to the last 32 and the in-form 2004 champion will be beaten.

After four qualifying rounds, the 16 qualifiers and the 16 seeds will meet in the last 32 rounds in the best of 11 frames. It’s six to the first.
