According to an accident report from the state of Oregon’s state, Strinz led the team’s bus around 9:56 p.m. when a driver in a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the opposite direction crossed the midline in the lane in which the bus was deployed and struck them head on.
Jones, 19, was declared dead on the scene, and Strinz, 46, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she died later. There were 10 members of the softball team on the bus at the time of the accident.

Eight other people on the bus would have undergone “moderate serious injuries”.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Johnathan James Dowdy, 32, suffered “serious injuries” and was transported to a hospital in the region. The investigation into the fatal accident remains in progress, Application of the law said.

The Umpqua Community Softball team canceled the two games on Saturday after the tragic deaths. They should play the next Friday.
