United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his full support for Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday.
Amid the ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran, Pakistani leaders have stepped up diplomatic efforts in coordination with Turkey and Egypt to help quell regional unrest. FM Dar engaged in telephone discussions with his counterparts from several Gulf states and other countries, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and advocating for dialogue and diplomacy in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
FM Dar said on X today that it was a “great pleasure” to speak with the UN chief.
“The Secretary General expressed his gratitude and expressed full support for Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts towards peace and stability in the region,” he said.
The foreign minister said they exchanged views on the developing situation in West Asia and its implications for international peace and security.
“I emphasized that the UN remains indispensable to the prevention and resolution of conflicts, and I reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable path to lasting peace.”
