Islamabad:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) called on a humanitarian approach to the question of Afghan refugees on Thursday and stressed to renew the dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan to guarantee the safe, voluntary and worthy return of individuals.
According to the spokesperson Qaiser Khan Afridi, the UNHCR called for a constructive commitment between Pakistan and Afghanistan to facilitate voluntary, informed and worthy yields, guaranteeing the sustainability of reintegration efforts in Afghanistan, where the human rights situation has remained disastrous.
The organization recognized and welcomed the tradition of Pakistan for the reception of Afghan refugees, many of whom had fled conflicts, persecution and instability since the late 1970s.
“The government and the people of Pakistan have a commendable history and several decades of welcoming Afghans who have fled conflicts and violence in the past,” noted Afridi.
