Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi has said that unity, dialogue and justice are the foundations of a strong and peaceful Pakistan. Addressing a conference of academics and clergymen in Faisalabad on Sunday, the PUC chairman said that the armed forces and leadership of Pakistan are fully capable of safeguarding the sovereignty and stability of the country.
He said peace and harmony can only be ensured by strengthening institutions and promoting justice-based systems. Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said Pakistan had made great sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and would continue its efforts towards regional peace.
The PUC chairman urged neighboring Afghanistan to play a constructive role in ensuring stability and preventing elements that threaten peace. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated significantly in recent months.
