McILroy posted a 33 front-nine, sneaking his second and third holes while shooting the rest. However, the nine of the back were the place where things started to fall from rails, and the infamous Rogueux of Oakmont played a huge role.

His first Bogey of the day came on hole 1 (McILroy started his turn on hole 10), and things could have been much worse on hole 4 when his journey on the par-5 shot to the right and landed on the horrible and high grass.

The ball was not at all visible while McILroy took a hacking on it, and the result was the landing a few meters in front of it. Thus, with a foot in a fairway bunker, McILroy was swinging again but in vain. The ball landed a few meters to the right this time.

McILroy entered his fourth blow on a hole that could have derailed all his turn. But he was able to put the ball on the fairway right in front of the green with a chance to go up and down at least to save Bogey.

This is exactly what he did, need a 30 -foot putt to fall into the hole and he obtained it. McILroy left hoping that these are all the misadventures he would face, but others came.

The n ° 6-8 holes saw Bogey, Bogey and Double-Bogey respectively, because McILroy found no consistency in his swing. His implementation did not help, lacking short putts which could have descended for the peer.

On his second hole, the McILroy T-shirt shot on the 289 yards of 2 289 yards went deep in the harsh behind the green, and he left a frustrating blow when his pitch once again turned a few meters in front of him.

McILroy finished his 4-Over round (74), which placed him tied in the 64th row in the American Open ranking.

McILroy was not the only one to face the difficult conditions in Oakmont, because one of his best friends, Shane Lowry, really crossed him in his 9 on 79 Thursday. He was even seen by throwing a microphone around the green after a shot in pieces.

The best players like Justin Rose (7-Over), Patrick Cantlay (6-Over), Matthew Fitzpatrick (4-Over) and Wyndham Clark (4-over) were also among those who have difficulty on Thursday.
