The United States once again beat Canada on Olympic ice to capture gold, this time at the Paralympics.

After a 6-2 victory over Canada on Sunday, the United States won the gold medal in men’s Paralympic sledge hockey.

In doing so, they became the first country to win five consecutive Paralympic titles. They were also the first to win all three Paralympic and Olympic hockey events in a single tournament.

Of course, the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams also won gold, in overtime in both gold medal games at the Milan Cortina Games last month.

But this showdown between the sporting rivals didn’t require overtime, as the United States saw Jack Wallace score a hat trick, while also notching an assist, to help the Stars and Stripes’ cause against Canada.

“This team is so special,” Wallace, who competed in his third Paralympic Games, told NBC after the victory. “We love each other. This team played a damn tough game. It was unbelievable. I love these guys so much.”

In addition to Wallace’s goals, Kayden Beasley, Declan Farmer and Brody Roybal each found the back of the net.

Only Canadian Liam Hickey managed to score, scoring two goals which ultimately were not enough.

While hockey is generally a Canadian-dominated sport, the Paralympics have seen Team USA in this position for some time now. And they showed why throughout the tournament, passing through Italy, Germany, China and the Czech Republic before facing Canada in the gold medal game.

Canada is also one of the best teams in the world, having faced the United States in three straight Paralympic gold medal games as well as eight straight World Championship finals.

But it was the United States that had success at the Olympics, and they continued the trend Sunday to end what has been an exciting time for everyone back home watching the red, white and blue on the ice.

With the Paralympics over, Team USA’s gold medal marks the 13th total since the event began on March 6. The United States finished with a total of 24 medals overall, including five silver and six bronze.

China led the medals at the end, with 44 medals and 15 golds in the bank.
