I’m sitting at the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate conference this week, listening to Van Jones, and I’m disappointed in myself because I don’t hate All he said.
It starts with this:
“I work for CNN,” Jones says, “But I’m not CNN. I don’t agree with everything CNN says or does.”

Van Jones, an ally of the Jews
I must not feel good, because Jones was once named “czar” in the Obama administration, and US Congressional records clearly describe him as an avowed communist.
And I am an adult born into communism who has experienced it first hand. So, I know people in America who praise communism when they have never lived through this disastrous totalitarian experience are idiots. In fact, they are useful idiots, as Lenin said.
Despite this, Jones says things that are not entirely false.
He shares with the audience at the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate conference that he visited Gaza in 2002 and 2004 before Hamas took power. He thus understood the deep meaning of Hamas’ attack against Israel on October 7, 2023.
“You tell me Hamas, you say Ku Klux Klan, the Nazis, I knew exactly what they were,” Jones says. “But then I realized that almost no one in my world would know about Hamas from hummus. They would have no idea.
“Suddenly I decided I needed to step up and be an ally [to Israel]”.

US would not allow Mexican rockets
Jones has done the math on Jews and, because he is participating in a symposium on anti-Semitism, he explains that there are only about 15.7 million Jews on Earth, about half of them in Israel.
“There are 15 million Jews in the world, half of whom are in Israel, surrounded and getting rockets fired at them every day,” Jones says. “No one in the United States would listen to Mexicans saying, ‘Look, Texas was Mexico. California was Mexico. This is stolen land, we want it back. So now we’re going to shoot rockets at your babies every day. And your kids have to wake up every morning and check their phones to see if it’s safe for them to get out, and you have to have a place to hide in your house.
“It would happen here once. If Mexico fired rockets here once, talking about giving us Texas back, Mexico would be a parking lot.”
Yes, mostly correct.
Except, of course, there have certainly been Mexicans protesting ICE’s actions, flying Mexican flags and claiming that California and Texas were stolen from them. No one is firing rockets, but Univision anchor Maria Elena Salinas said “the whole southwest is Mexico.”
And she said it was not challenged on the same site CNN Jones worked for, but disavowed it on Thursday.
We move away.

Jones: Protection of Jews is priority
“So,” Jones says, “the idea that Jews are supposed to live in this constant state of terror. The only place they’ve ever been safe is through bombings, and if they do anything to try to protect themselves, they’re wrong. That, I don’t think, has been explained to me in all my years as a progressive.
“We left the impression that if you were a white man and had money, you couldn’t be oppressed. When in reality, not that all Jews have money, but the reality is that for 3,000 years, white men and women, who had money and didn’t have money, were brutally oppressed. Brutally oppressed. Driven out of every country. How we let that go is a mystery that must be resolved and resolved.”
Jones said protecting Jews from anti-Semitism must be at the top of the list of marginalized people who need protection.
“In my opinion, this is part of a much larger conspiracy,” Jones says. “No one is that angry at 15 million people. There are eight billion people in the world and they are angry at 15 million? No. When they attack Jews, it’s not at Jews.

“It’s only 15 million people. It’s something else. And I believe they are deliberately going after the Jews to bring down the entire Western world.
“I think if they can separate black people from Jews, if they can get people to turn against each other and promote this poison, I don’t think it’s about the Jews. I think it’s a much larger conspiracy and I think we’re being had.”
Jones was a radical for much of his life. Now he either softens (which is unlikely), or he controls the opposition, or he simply arrives at some truth sometimes.
Thursday was an example.
