Venus Williams was all smiling after his first round victory in Open DC Tuesday.
The 45 year old man tennis Star made an unexpected return to the tennis court this week, 16 months after his last professional competition. With a dominant victory over the American Peyton Stearns, she became the oldest woman since Martina Navratilova to win a single match.

Navratilova did it in 2004 at the age of 47.

“It’s not easy to detach yourself after all this time and play the perfect match and all WTA players play incredible – Peyton played so well. I had the impression of trying to slow myself – we were going faster and faster and faster,” said Williams after the 6-3, 6-4 victory.
“It’s just about assembling everything. You can still play a good game and lose the match. I wanted to play a good game and win the match. It’s so rewarding to come back after layoffs and injuries – and you know, I didn’t have to go back to play too.”

Williams entered the open DC with an invitation to the Joker. She opened the tournament with a double victory on Monday and followed the victory with another dominant performance on Tuesday.
