Viral encounter in Peshawar triggers CM probe

A video showing the killing of a suspect in an alleged encounter with police in Peshawar’s Badhber area has gone viral on social media, prompting the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister to order a transparent probe into the incident.

According to police, the incident took place in Janay Khwar Teela Band locality, where Inzamam, son of Israr and a member of the Afridi clan, was killed in an exchange of fire.

Taking cognizance of the viral video, the Chief Minister directed the Provincial Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct a fair and impartial investigation. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed also immediately took notice of the incident and formed a high-level commission of inquiry to verify the facts.

The committee will be headed by SSP investigation officer Ayesha Gul, while SSP coordination Khalid Khan and SP division Saddar Raza Muhammad Khan will be members. The CCPO asked the committee to thoroughly examine all aspects of the matter and submit a comprehensive report as soon as possible.

Mian Saeed stressed that the investigation must be conducted with full transparency, professionalism and merit. He also asked the authorities concerned to preserve all evidence and record the statements of witnesses in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, according to police sources, the deceased suspect was wanted since 2024 in several criminal cases and was allegedly the leader of a gang of mobile thieves.
