The central football coach of North Carolina, Trei Oliver, spoke of a memorable situation that he lived during his time to patrol a line of touch of university football.

Oliver said last season, he discovered an assistant football coach from Viriginia Tech Hokies trying to recruit one of his star players from the sidelines.

The Eagles coach suggested that the alleged and unauthorized recruitment of the unauthorized assistant was part of an effort to convince a ball carrier to enter the transfer portal.

While Oliver stopped to appoint the player, he noted the ball carrier to whom he was finally referenced transferred to Virginia.

The ball carrier Jemari Taylor, who won the honors of the first All-Meac team during his off-competition mandate at the NCCU, is listed on the UVA list.

The NCCU coach also suggested that he was aware of the motivations of the deputy coach at the time.

“I knew what it was,” said Oliver.

Shortly after Oliver raised the accusations, Virginia Tech published a statement saying that she was not aware of the problem, but was ready to launch an investigation into complaints.

“This is the first time that the problem has been brought to our attention, and no concern has already been shared with us via a formal channel,” said the team. “Virginia Tech takes seriously all the rules of the NCAA and undertakes to carry out our program with integrity. We examine the case internally and will approach all the conclusions appropriately.”

Virginia Tech finished the regular 2025 regular season with a visit to Charlottesville on November 29. Oliver will be a fan of the riders that day while he rooted his former player. He even predicted a resounding victory UVA.

“Thank goodness, he went to Uva,” said Oliver, “and Uva will beat the smoke from other people.”
