The Philadelphia 76 -ters 2024-25 campaign was disappointing. The Star Center Joel Embiid season was prey to injuries, and the team finished with a 24-58 file, the third worst brand of the Eastern Conference.

The Sixers held the third overall selection at the NBA 2025 draft.

Cooper Flagg was the first prospect to leave the board of directors, followed by the former outdoor competition Rutgers Dylan Harper. Philly then selected VJ EdgeCombe at No. 3.

While the 19 -year -old’s match could blend with the Sixers’ rear area, Edgecombe had to overcome many obstacles out of the field long before he heard his name during the draft evening.

Shortly after crossing the scene inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday, Edgecombe was questioned about the emotional state of her mother when she looked at the dreams of her son’s NBA material.

“The long nights. … I experienced a generator for seven years. I had no electricity. I experienced a generator for seven years,” said former Baylor Basketball star about some of the memories that have stuck to him since childhood.

“To see what she had to go through just to feed us? Crazy,” added EdgeCombe while retalling.

While Flagg was considered the best consensus hope entering this year’s draft, the choice of Sixers at No. 3 was not as clear.

Edgecombe admitted that he was not entirely convinced that he would hear his name called once the Sixers were on the chronometer.

“No, I had no idea what was going on,” he said. “I said to myself:” I just live in the moment until they tell me that I go “when I was at the table, like 15 seconds before they write to me, before the commissioner calls me. They said nothing to me. It was always in the air of what was going on.”

Edgecombe collected an average of 15 points, 3.2 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game last season in Baylor.
