WAPDA irregularities are put under projector

Islamabad:

The head of a Senate committee noted that certain paras audits concerning the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) have been pending since 1985 while the Ministry of Water and the Power has no files in certain cases.

The Senatorial Water Resources Committee met Thursday under the chairmanship of Senator Shahadat Awan to receive a briefing on requests for information carried out by the Ministry on the recommendations of the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) and the Committee of Public Accounts (PAC ) in the paras of Wapda.

WAPDA officials informed the Committee that 56 surveys were carried out on the CAP recommendations, 43 of which were completed, 10 are underway and the three others are under investigation by the National Accountability Bureau.

They said 381 surveys had been launched on the DAC recommendations, 308 of which were completed and 67 pending.

Senator Shahadat Awan noted that 187 audit paras were pending.
