Two proposals that would have prevented transgender athletes from participating in female and female sports in Washington State failed during a vote on Monday.
The changes need 60% of the vote to adopt – the proposal limiting the participation of sports of girls to organic women obtained 31 of the 53 votes (58.5%), and the other which would have created an open division for students in boys and girls competitions – only obtained 24.5% (13 out of 53).
Washington’s state law is currently protecting transgender persons against discrimination under Washington law against discrimination (WLAD). So, even if the acts had been adopted, there was yet another clear obstacle on the way.

The Lynden school board proposed the idea that only women born participating in girls sports. This proposal, says the Daily Cascadia, would also have made the boys’ division an “open” category.
“It is clear for our girls’ athletes that the competition against other athletes who have crossed male puberty is unfair,” said Lynden’s superintendent David Vanderyacht, via the Daily Cascadia. “They asked us to resolve it, and the Lynden school board attempts to do so in a way that respects and honors the dignity of all students.”
The Trump administration recently frozen the financing of the state of Maine because of the state which does not follow the executive decree of President Donald Trump who says that transgender athletes must compete with their sex from birth. However, a federal judge ruled that the administration should “thaw” these funds and is unable to return “without complying with the legally required procedure”.

The USDA announced the freeze of funding and an examination of federal funding in Maine earlier this month after the State has refused to offer equal chances to women and girls in educational programs.
Maine officials filed a complaint against the USDA last week following the agency’s decision to freeze state financing.
The State accused the USDA of “retaining the funding used to feed children in schools, daycares and programming after school as well as withdrawal adults”, an argument with which the judge accepted.
Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, recently asked that the problems between the administration and its state be “resolved”, claiming that it would continue to fight for federal funding for the State while being against transgender athletes in organic sports.
