Airbnb’s overhaul, and its push to allow Airbnb users more than a simple vacation spot or a getaway, has been released for a few weeks now. The idea is that you had more than just a chalet on a beach – also turning to service, for example, when you want to discover a city that is close to you or add an adventure to your trip abroad.
We have already broken down the additions, including the launch of experiences and services, as well as the new application of the application. All this seems much more elegant, with visuals that adapt to the fly, a mini social network and a passport that saves all the information on your trip. So if you have a favorite place, you can easily share it with a friend. Everything seems very material.
Here, we take a look under the hood and discover how Airbnb improves the application better for you. The company has rebuilt all its technological battery for the application and service as a whole, which means that you will find easier navigation with three choices at the top: houses, experiences and services.
In addition, there is a redesigned profile that allows you to take a look back and even reconnect with the people with whom you have had experiences. The reconstruction effort allows what is already launched, while preparing Airbnb for the future, a note that Jud Coplan, vice-president of product marketing at Airbnb, shared with Techradar.
“One of the enormous advantages of the reconstruction of architecture and the rensation, really, of the application infrastructure was that we have created something that can extend beyond the 10 categories of services.” COPLAN said to me.
It was referring to the 10 that currently exists – chiefs, photographers, massages, spa treatments, personal training, hair treatments, makeup, nails, prepared meals and catering – but I suggested that expansion is very possible, adding: “We have created a new airbnb that can go even beyond what we have spoken today.”
This could mean that we see integrated grocery deliveries, so you can be well supplied when you arrive at your airbnb to prepare dinner, or maybe it means that you can order directly at home.
It is really an expansion of the platform to reserve these services, whether you are in your hometown or on a trip. COPLAN explained to me how his family had reserved an experience in their hometown of San Francisco, a sort of stay excursion.
The 10 above -mentioned options are also on the theme of activity, such as cooking, city walks, learning a new skill and even more exclusive with celebrities.
During the opening, the CEO of Airbnb, Brian Chesky, stressed the importance of people, noting that they are real people who are experts offering this experiences and services, and they are real people offering their house, their lofts or their apartments for Airbnb.
There is an element of the AI used here, an example being a photo visit powered by AI, as explained by Coplan. “For houses, if you download all your photos, we recognize them, we organize them, we present them very well”, all in order to make the list easier and theoretically by helping to encourage more reservations. There are also rapid responses supplied by AI, in which, for a host, the application automatically suggests an answer that could be sent.
For services and experiences, the two new airbnb offers use AI to recommend what you might find most attractive. This bases this from “where they are on their trip, their reservations passed, their journey in progress, which they told us about in their profile,” explained Coplan.
Finally, on the AI, Coplan also shared that Airbnb began to deploy an AI assistant for customer service in the United States in English: “This allows people to conversation in natural language with customer service and obtain answers to questions very easily.” It will be interesting to see how it works and comments that users provide.
On the new look and the flow of the application, it was clear that Coplan and the Airbnb team focused on the human element, stressing that what can be reserved is all related to a real person. He noted that the color palette, animations and dimensionality have all linked to the real world, giving an idea of what you could experience.
Even more interesting, and perhaps referring to the Airbnb future, is the community aspect. “We didn’t want it to be a place where you have subscribers, where you meet people online,” said Coplan. “The people you see are people you know about the real world, and so that the connections are loinizing in your profile, they are people with whom you have traveled and they are people you have met on your experiences.”
It is certainly a unique and more intentional approach, anchored in a shared experience. Now it is completely opt, and there are privacy checks that allow you to deactivate this community aspect.
Distinct from the community, but also housed in the profile, is a kind of passport type experience, allowing you to look back where you have been and easily share the details. Like a card in the Apple wallet, it has a shimmering and shine effect when you move your phone.
Although the main event of Airbnb is its annual summer release, and it made for 2025, I suspect that we will hear earlier than a year, and I am intrigued to see how far the technological battery can go. For the moment, I’m looking for an experience to try.
