- Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2 will be a live animation hybrid
- Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu explain how they have prepared to play animated characters in “Lux”
- The chapter will showcase an entirely lively villain called Mister Ring-A-Ding
Doctor WhoThe two main stars revealed the unusual duties they were assigned to prepare for the next episode of season 2.
Addressing Techradar, Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu discussed the exciting but difficult process to bring the doctor and Bel to life in animated form. This is because, if it was not clear, the next episode of the emblematic science fiction series will be a live animation hybrid – the one who will see the main duo of the program has turned into animated characters.
The second episode of Doctor Who Season 2, entitled “Lux”, will see the intrepid time traveler and his new companion to move to Miami from the 1950s. Once there, however, they will discover that a local theater hides a terrifying secret. It will be Mister Ring-A-Ding, an entirely animated villain who, as we teased Doctor Who The first trailer of season 2 kidnaps humans and transforms them into the forms of cartoons of themselves.
The appearances of Mister Ring-A-Ding in this teaser and Doctor Who The official trailer of season 2 immediately reminded me of the style of animation of the rubber pipe from the animated era of the United States. It is an art form that was mainly used in the 1930s, with companies such as Walt Disney Studios, Fleischer Studios and Walter Lantz Productions permeate their animated offers with its surreal qualities.
Although this form of animation has influenced some of the visuals of “Lux”, Gatwa and Sethu told me that the style used to give life to their character comes to life for another famous animation studio in Hanna-Barbera. The legendary Time Lord and Bel transformed themselves into versions of cartoons of themselves in the next entry of Disney + Show, they were put in place curious by the showrunner Russell T. Davies before filming the second episode of this season.
“It was so fun!” Gatwa responded with enthusiasm. “He [filming ‘Lux’] was a highlight of filming this season.
“In the script, each animation style had been noted so that we could see, so we knew the animation style that was going to be used on our characters. It was like a Hanna-Barbera type cartoon, so we spent our mornings watching Scooby-doo.

“We are serious actors – we are doing our research!” He continued laughing. “But, we needed this to enter the right head space to play these scenes. We filmed them in person, so we had to understand all the movements of our animation form in advance. How does a cartoon think? What is it moving? When and how to gesticulate like a animated human?”
“It is much more reinforced than the way normal people communicate,” added Sethu about one of the best chapters in Disney + Shows. “So we were told to look Scooby-doo To reproduce these exaggerated movements. These were later animated by our fantastic crew. It was so fun to see how the whole process worked and we were so excited to see what our caricatures looked like once the episode is finished. “”
