- DC Studios found the main star for its Clay movie
- Surprisingly, the villain Batman will not be played by Alan Tudyk
- Tudyk expressed Clayface in season 1 of Creature commandos
DC Studios revealed which actor will play in his next Clay Film – And, surprisingly, it will not be Alan Tudyk.
Reported for the first time by Deadline and later confirmed by the co-chief of studio James Gunn, the full character of the budget horror film will be represented by Tom Rhys Harries. Going on Instagram, Gunn said it was a “long and exhaustive research” to find the right person to play the metamorph, but he and his other producer Matt Reeves finally settled on Harries after being “breathtaking” by his hearings.
Clay Will be the third film released as part of the first range of movies and television programs in the DC (DCU) universe. Currently, he should be released on September 11, 2026, so he will arrive three months after Supergirl: woman of tomorrow – or, as Gunn recently confirmed, the second DCU film which is now known by its much simpler title in Supergirl.
We know little about ClayHistory. However, he will be led by James Watkins (Don’t talk about evil) And his original script was written by the horror author Mike Flanagan. According to Deadline, Hossein Amini led rewritings for the film of the DCU Chapter One, but Gunn confirmed (via the sons) that the vast majority of the initial scenario of Flanagan had been kept.
The main photography should start in October, according to Umberto Gonzalez from Wrap. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gunn and Company also seek to gain a modest $ 40 million.
Why doesn’t Alan Tudyk play Clayface in his live DC comic film?
Harries hiring has certainly raised eyebrows among DC fans.
There is no doubt that the Welsh actor is a talented arrival – in fact, he turned out to be as much in the Apple TV + series SuspicionNetflix emission Whiteand the criminal comedy film by Guy Ritchie 2019 Gentlemen. More recently, Harries portrayed Ricky in September Doctor Who The episode “Dot and Bubble”, which, according to its 94% critical note on Rotten Tomatoes, is one of the highest rated payments in the Ncuti Gatwa era.
Nevertheless, the fans expressed their surprised that the prolific actor Alan Tudyk, who expressed Clayface in season 1 of Creature commandosalias The first television series of the DCU, on max, was not used to represent Claythe titular character. After all, some people stressed that Gunn previously declared that the actors who were launched in the DCU would play their character in live and animated projects.
Gunn, however, tried to clarify any confusion on the casting of Harries. Responding to a fan on the wires on the reasons why Tudyk was not chosen, Gunn wrote: “I said that we plan to use primary actors whenever we can. I never said that if the two characters were the same. (I never said they didn’t say it).”
It is the last part of his answer that is the most revealing. There were eight play incarnations in DC Comics, so it is quite possible that Tudyk and Harries depict different versions of the mean metahum of the DCU. We will learn if this is the case once Clay took shape and landed in theaters next year.
