- Western Digital Invested in Céabytets to advance the storage of permanent ceramic data
- Cerabbyte targets storage on the scale of exubytes without electricity or maintenance requirements
- Pure storage and long-term long-term storage objectives have previously supported
We have written on Cerabbyte several times before. The startup strives to solve the problem of the storage of long -term data by taking a sheet of the ancient Egyptians, by replacing scissors and stones with lasers and femtosecond ceramics.
Its system registers the data in Code QR models on ceramic nanocouches, a support that can last thousands of years without needing to be able to preserve the stored content.
Cerabbyte aims to establish a new level of permanent and sustainable storage at Petaoctet on the scale of the exubytes. Technology avoids problems such as bits rot and silent corruption, offering an immutable registration of original data.
WD is the last investor
Western Digital is the last company to make a strategic investment in Céabytets to help accelerate the development of technology.
“We are impatient to work with Cerabbyte to formulate a technological partnership for the marketing of this technology,” said Shantnu Sharma, strategy manager and business development manager, Western Digital. “Our investment in Céabytet is aligned with our priority to extend the scope of our products in the use of long -term data storage.”
The prototype of Cerabbyte, built with standard parts, already offers megaoctets per second and writing speeds and a capacity on the scale of gigabytes. Storage is managed via robotic cartridges inside the library racks, designed for compatibility with the standard infrastructure of the data center.
“Our ceramic data storage offers a vital long -term data storage layer which guarantees rapid data recovery – often in a few seconds – unlocking new sources of income,” said Christian PFLAUM, co -founder and CEO of Cerabbyte. “We are delighted to work with Western Digital to define a technological partnership, fueling our ability to provide permanent storage solutions accessible on a large scale.”
The company plans to go from a 1PB rack pilot to 100pb by 2030, the access times falling below 10 seconds and the flow exceeding 1 GB / s.
Western Digital joins Pure Storage and the IN-Q-TEL VC supported by the CIA in the investment in the long-term storage vision of Cerabbyte.
