- SupergirlThe lead actor revealed how she felt after being cast in the DCU
- Milly Alcock admitted she wasn’t sure she was the right choice for the role
- Elsewhere, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn denied rumors about the film’s budget.
The main actor of 2026 Supergirl The film opened with the fear she felt about being cast as Kara Zor-El in the DC Universe (DCU).
For the first time, Milly Alcock, who won the race to play Supergirl in January 2024, has revealed why she didn’t feel like the right fit for the character.
Speaking to Forbes Australia, Alcock admitted that while she was thrilled to have been cast as the titular Kryptonian in the DCU, it took her a while to overcome the imposter syndrome that gripped her when landing the role.
“I asked myself, ‘What have I done?’” Alcock said. “I really had a hard time believing I could do it. I even called the director [Craig Gillespie] saying ‘I don’t know how to be that person.’ I’m just me.
“Eventually, I realized that the only way to get through this was to trust myself,” said the Dragon House And Mermaids the elder continued. “I always believe that life happens on time. Things happen when they’re supposed to, whether you feel ready or not.”
If any DC comic fans doubted whether Alcock had the talent to play the eponymous hero, such uncertainty was banished in the 2025s. Superman movie. Indeed, at the time, I was of the opinion that I only needed to see 30 seconds of Superman have full confidence in Supergirl – and it’s all due to Alcock’s scene-stealing cameo in said film.
Based on his performance, which DC Studios co-head James Gunn called “absolutely breathtaking” in September, in Superman, we’re in for a treat when Supergirl hits theaters next June.
‘Not even a little bit true’: why James Gunn recently defended Supergirl
Speaking of Gunn, the DCU co-lord dismissed a report about the superhero film’s apparent budget.
In its profile article on Alcock, Forbes suggested that the film formerly known as Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow cost $200 million. However, responding to a Threads fan about the spending rumor, Gunn simply said: “[It’s] not even a little bit true. »
Gunn is no stranger to debunking claims regarding his and Peter Safran’s burgeoning film franchise. Indeed, he regularly raises his head over the parapet to dismiss reports about various DCU Chapter One projects, so it’s no surprise to see him do so here.
Even so, the fact that Gunn denied Supergirl the $200 million cost is significant.
Without knowing the ins and outs of Hollywood filmmaking, the common consensus among fans is that a film generally needs to make twice as much money as it costs to be profitable. In short: the smaller the budget, the less money a film must make to be considered a commercial success.
If SupergirlWith production expenses of $200 million, it would theoretically need to bring in $400 million in ticket sales to break even. The fact that its budget is apparently smaller therefore means that it is more likely to not only recover its expenses, but also to be profitable.
Of course, we’ll see if one of next year’s most exciting new films will be a box office success when Supergirl takes flight on June 26, 2026. But, with rumors circulating that SupergirlThe first trailer for could be released very soon, the reception it receives upon its arrival could give us an idea of what it will be like.
