Wheat cultivators protest through punjab

Karachi:

The Kissan Ittehad and the Sindh Abadgar Alliance announced a protest movement through Punjab from August 11 due to the government’s failure to set the official price of wheat support.

“On August 11, symbolic funeral for agriculture will be held in front of the DC office in Kasur, and a demonstration will be held in front of the Hyderabad Press Club on August 20,” Kissan Ittehad, Khalid Hussain Batth said on Saturday.

The president of the Alliance of Sindh Abadgar, Zubair Talpur, was also present on this occasion.

Batth said demonstrations would take place in all the provinces, followed by a march to Islamabad. “This time, we will protest before the start of the wheat culture season,” he said, adding that this movement has no affiliation with any political party.

He has added that over the past two years, the cost of growing wheat was 4,000 rupees per 40 kg, while the government bought wheat at only RS2,200.

“We are ready for a forensic audit,” he said. “The government requires up to 45% of taxes, but how can we pay taxes when we do not even make a profit?”

He said that if the government was not set for wheat support before the start of sowing, it will launch talks with the Prime Minister and the Ministers in chief. If there is still no decision, demonstrations across the province will be launched in Punjab on August 11 and Sindh on August 20.

“The government has failed to set wheat prices in the past two years,” he noted.
