The Pakistani singer and actor Azaan Sami Khan shared a video of his late grandfather, the squadron chief Arshad Sami Khan, highlighting the value of the officers of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) during the 1965 war with India.
The black and white images resurfaces, originally filmed during the conflict, presents Arshad Sami Khan and other PAF officers who gave interviews on their combat experiences.
In the video, the police describe how they killed several Indian mig hunting planes, declaring that they “fell like small birds”. They said that between nine and ten enemy planes had been destroyed during air commitments and firmly denied Indian reports to reduce Pakistani aircraft.
The clip has since become viral through Pakistan, in particular in the light of the recent military exchange of the country with India.
While the tensions intensified after the operation of India, Sindoor, which included missile strikes in Pakistan, Islamabad responded by slaughtering six Indian planes and drones, including the Rafale jets.
The resurfacing of the images of 1965 was interpreted by many on social networks as a symbolic continuation of the military heritage of Pakistan, the users celebrating the air superiority of the PAF both in the past and the present.
The video also gained ground in the context of a controversy surrounding Azaan’s father, Adnan Sami, a renowned singer born in the United Kingdom of a Pakistani father and an Indian mother.
Adnan Sami, who became an Indian citizen in 2016, was recently criticized for supporting the Indian operation Sindoor. He has published slogans praising the Indian army, including the “Sindoor is Tandoor Tak” sentence, which has aroused many criticism from the online Pakistanis.
