The Atlanta Hawks trade four-time All-Star point guard Trae Young to the Washington Wizards.
According to the trade agreement agreed between the two teams, the Hawks will receive veteran combo guard CJ McCollum and winger Corey Kispert.
Sources reveal that although Hawks once had long-term plans for Young, 27, the team performed better without him.
When he suffered a sprained knee, the superstar was unable to play from October 31, 2025 to December 14, 2025, and the Hawks went 13-9.
He has played in five games since his return and the Hawks have suffered a loss in all of them.
Thus, management worked with the star player’s agents to find him a new destination.
According to Athletics, Wizards, who are currently in a rebuilding phase, have become a natural and realistic option for Young to attempt to rehabilitate.
League sources suggest that the Wizards, due to their young move, were identified as a suitable destination for Young months before the trades were actually finalized.
The franchise needed a point guard and they were willing to provide as much time as Young needed to get fully fit and healthy.
Management believes that with the inclusion of Young, they could witness the best offensive version of their young players, including Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson and Bilal Coulibaly.
