- Airpods Max 2 is not expected before at least 2027
- Airpods Pro 3 predicted again for the end of 2025
- Airpods Max would not sell enough to justify the investment
If you hope for an AirPods Max 2 ad at the Big Apple event on September 9, 2025, prepare to be disappointed: Apple’s next generation of gold should not arrive before at least 2027.
It is an eternity in technological terms: the original airpods that Max launched in 2020. But it seems that Apple is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
According to Bloomberg, the problem is simple: the AirPods Max are “too popular for Apple to stop selling them, and not popular enough for the company to invest a ton of time and money in the creation of a new version” – After all, there is AirPods Pro 3 on which work instead.
What are the AirPods Max 2 and Airpods Pro 3 plans of Apple?

Regarding current AirPods Max, their most recent update was a wet Squib: they forced USB -C to comply with EU legislation, and it was with regard to new material features – although this allowed a wired audio support without loss, and we think it works quite well, in fact.
The upgrading of the hoped -for H2 chip, which would have put them on equal with AirPods Pro 2, did not appear. Airpods Max, unlike many premium headphones, still does not make wireless sound, and having an older chip means that there is a lack of many features of AirPods Pro 2.
After five years of daily wear, my AirPods Og Max are privileged candidates for replacement: the banner becomes baggy, the tight adjustment – I have a huge head – is slightly boring now, having to find a cable or a lightning adapter when all the rest of my life is USB -C is a pain.
But I am not interested in paying a premium price for technology that has half a decennia, especially when the best headphones for other companies are improving considerably with each new version. I wonder how many other owners of AirPods Max are likely to go to rival marks before the arrival of the second generation …
