- Microsoft apparently has a new OneDrive application in preparation
- The software has been disclosed and is delivered with a smooth modern design
- However, it turns out that divides in terms of what could be the interest of the application – But maybe we don’t yet see the full image
Microsoft apparently works on a new OneDrive application for Windows 11 with a clean and modern interface.
Windows Central reports that he saw this creation, which was disclosed from the own Microsoft servers. It seems that it is a dedicated application for OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage service, but is software on the web rather than a natively coded software for Windows 11. As always, we recommend caution around leaks, but that certainly seems intriguing.
Windows Central assures us that, although it is a web application. This new version of OneDrive is not slow software (unlike the new Outlook application, which is also a web application, but suffers on the performance front).
The new OneDrive application begins by presenting your photo library to you, although it has a switch to return to its file management panel, where you can see everything (images, documents, all your files in the cloud).
In the photo panel, you can easily access your “moments” – photos from the past years taken on the current date – as well as photo albums and a gallery view.
Windows Central observes that the view of the gallery is “new, and not currently available on the normal OneDrive website”, but there is a gallery view with the OneDrive site. I suppose that our sister site means that it is “ new ” as in “ modified ”, and the main difference seems to be a new floating menu bar which appears when you select a photo – although it offers roughly the same options as the upper menu bar which is summoned on the current OneDrive site.
In any case, the new view of the gallery looks smooth, just like the whole interface here, that is to say that everything is very beautiful, brilliant and modern. (Again, remember that we must take all this information with an appropriate dose of seasoning).
Analysis: What is Microsoft here?
So, yes, it is a beautiful vision of OneDrive in a neat application package for Windows 11, and the fact that we are told that it works well and in an efficient way sounds well. It is good to have the “moments” (historical photos) features easily accessible. This is part of the telephone application, and I get notifications on my Windows 10 PC for times binding the OneDrive website, but they are strangely sporadic.
On the whole, however, there is not much here, which is so different from the OneDrive website – not with regard to this leak, anyway. Of course, the software disclosed here can be an old version of the application, or there may be more to reveal – and more information could happen soon.
Why do I say that? Because, quite funny, Microsoft has its “ONEDRIVE annual digital event” on October 8, which could be an appropriate moment for an unveiling. Interestingly, the presentation text of this event mentions the latest advances of OneDrive in AI “, so maybe this application will also have an infused AI in there-it would hardly be a surprise.
This new OneDrive application is a bit of a shoemaker in some respects, however, since you can already access a Microsoft cloud storage locker directly via Windows 11 files (File Explorer) – or the photo application elsewhere. Ok, so these methods are not as neat and well tidy, but still, because of this, there are people who react to this leak with confusion. They wonder why Microsoft would even care about this new application – since, as indicated, it does not seem to make very different.
Maybe Microsoft will explain all next week, and we will just have to wait for the official revelation and the details of what the OneDrive application can really do.
Meanwhile, there are already groans of a number of Windows 11 users on social networks and usual forums on how this will be another unwanted default application in the operating system that they must get rid of. This chatter is combined with cynical cries that it’s just another way for Microsoft to try to push OneDrive (and subscriptions there – something that society wants to do in the past, it should be noted).
