- Windows 11 August update is now available
- It comes with a new feature aimed at recovering a PC that does not start
- There is also an important solution to solve the stability problems that players have with Windows 11 24h2
Windows 11 has a new available update that makes smart introductions, including a new PC recovery capacity and a vital solution for players.
The August patch for Windows 11 24:2 (known as KB5063878) brings a new fast recovery feature (QMR) which is a very welcome addition, but it is something that I deeply hope that I will never have to see.
Indeed, this feature – which is incoming for all Windows 11 users, as indicated by Windows, is designed to help recover your PC from a start -up failure. It is the most horrible of computer scenarios where you cannot even go to the office, and obviously, it makes it difficult to repair everything that has gone wrong with your system.
In these cases, QMR represents a new choice in the Windows recovery environment (which can be accessible to try to recover a non -booting PC), by which Windows 11 uses a local network connection to send diagnostic data concerning the system alteration problem to Microsoft. The idea is that this data can (hopefully) be used to find a solution, and that this remedy can be automatically corrected.
In short, your PC will be repaired, which is a great idea, obviously, although I have already said, I hope I never use this feature, because I prefer not to meet a start -up failure in the first place. (They are rare incidents, fortunately.)
There is also a big addition for Copilot + PC with the August patch, which is the deployment of the very first AI agent in Windows 11. This “Windows agent” lies in the Settings application and offers a way to find the options you need with a minimum of hassle. Essentially, it is a research fueled by AI that uses natural language – so that you can ask questions in a conversational way, and this will also suggest recommended parameters for everything you are looking for.
Although this change is for Copilot +laptops, there is also an adjustment that traditional Windows 11 PCs obtain, by which the search box in the settings has been moved to a better and more visible position, centered at the top of the panel.
This last patch also makes the black screen of death – a more rationalized version of the old blue – official screen, although I have doubts as to whether it is an improvement.
The August update for Windows 11 also solves the various stability problems related to the game which were present in the 24H2 version, which is a huge boon for players – and there is also a new GamePad layout for the virtual keyboard of the operating system.
For more details on this fix, see my ventilation of the preview version which was released at the end of July, which is essentially the same update (when it was still in testing as an optional upgrade).
Analysis: Trick Fix Slilick?
The highest point here, at least in terms of upcoming features on all Windows 11 PCs (not just Copilot + Devices), is the rapid recovery of the machine (QMR). This feature will live or die if it works well, and how it proves to resolve start -up failures – although this is said to be additional help to bring your PC to reach the office will be at hand.
The good news is that Windows has tried the QMR and observed that it has been sufficiently implemented (although the technological site cannot test it with a real start -up problem).
It should be noted that when Microsoft previously tested QMR in the preview builds, the company said that it would be activated by default for all Windows 11 users. This makes sense, because there is really no reason not to activate this feature for everyday people (professional users will have the decision of their IT administrators).
Okay, so maybe some home users will not like the idea of sending any Data via the Cloud in Microsoft, but when it is diagnostic information that could cure your PC so that it is in boots, saving you a major headache in the process, I think that even the most paranoid would concede that it is a more than valid compromise. And if Microsoft does not have a default QMR, the average user may never be aware of the functionality, or benefit from it if his PC pressed a presentation bug that prevents him from starting.
Aside from that, the game fix is also important. Some players running Windows 11 24h2 were seriously frustrated by accidents like Fortnite, so I hope it will drop the curtain of this sorry episode. (24h2 was very problematic for PC players, as you may remember.)
The AI agent is an excellent addition for Copilot + PCS, and the use of AI to strengthen research is a theme with which Microsoft pushes – it is an obvious way to give more depth to a capacity commonly used in different areas of Windows. Previously, Microsoft stung the main search for Windows 11 (via the box in the taskbar) with the AI, which was good to see. In addition, the recall is another tip of this type for Copilot + PCS, although the one who does not remain convinced.
