- Microsoft says that mobile plans should stop from February 2026
- A “more integrated experience” via Windows settings arrive
- Operators must upgrade their websites to support the new Windows system
Microsoft confirmed the plans to end the support of mobile plans from February 27, 2026, with the application that will be deleted from Windows and Microsoft Store with immediate effect.
The company explained in a blog article that it wanted to “simplify the way you connect your PC to mobile data”, the addition of users can always be linked to mobile networks in the future, but not via the application which will soon be depreciated.
After the modification, users will be able to buy and manage the cell plans via the browser and the Windows parameter application.
You can always use cellular data
In the future, Microsoft has promised a “much more integrated experience” in the future without the need for additional applications – “just a direct link between Windows and the website of your mobile operator”.
Once users have bought and activated data plans on their operator’s website, Windows settings will help them share appliances like EID and IMEI safely with operators, which can automatically provide ESIMS without codes or QR required.
Windows Insiders can already use this feature today, but the public version will not come before the last half of 2025.
For those who have already connected their PCs to an old -fashioned mobile network, existing connections will continue to operate as usual. But instead of managing them via the mobile plans interface, users will rather have to use their operator’s website.
Microsoft promises to update its documentation before changing up -to -date advice.
Although the experience involves a little more than an updated interface for end users, operators can be a little slower to respond. The company explained that operators must adapt their systems to add the possibility of launching the Windows activation flow (for the sharing of peripheral identifiers).
They will have advice from Microsoft, but that does not mean that they will act quickly – or not at all.
“Select Partners” had already joined a test and feedback group in June 2025. Techradar Pro Asked Microsoft to confirm who it is, but we have not received an immediate response.
In the meantime, however, the mobile plans application continues to work, so if you do not know if your operator is likely to support the new Microsoft system immediately, it is better to adjust things now.
