Norway, Sweden and Finland are generally the countries that dominate cross-country skiing. Ogden’s podium was the first by an American in the discipline. American men had not won a medal in a cross-country skiing event since Bill Koch in 1976.

Ogden finished first in the second quarter-final ahead of Alvar Myhlback of Sweden, Federico Pellegrino of Italy and Lauri Vuorinen of Finland. His American teammate JC Schoonmaker was also in contention for a place in the final, but fell short in the semifinals.

Ogden is no stranger to the American cross-country history books. He and his teammates won a silver medal at the 2018 Junior World Ski Championships in Switzerland, which was the first medal for the United States at the Junior World Championships.

He made his Olympic debut in 2022 in Beijing and finished 12th in that event. Four years later, Ogden can now call himself an Olympic medalist.
