Woman drawn from Mandalay rubble 30 hours after a deadly earthquake

Mandalay: A woman was saved alive from the rubble of a collapsed building in Mandalay, 30 hours after a powerful earthquake struck myanmar, leaving dozens dreaded under the debris.

The applause rang while Phyu Lay Khaig, 30, was out of the condominium of Sky Villa by rescuers and carefully withdrawn from the rubble on a stretcher.

Her husband, Ye Aung, who was impatiently awaiting the news, kissed her while the stretcher was raised.

“At first, I did not think she would be alive,” Ye Aung told AFP while waiting for his wife to emerge from debris.

“I am very happy to have heard good news,” said the trader, who has two sons with his wife – William, eight years old and Ethan, five.

While the ambulance walked away in the hospital, Ye Aung was seen through the window shaking with his wife’s hand.

An official of the Red Cross told AFP earlier that more than 90 people could be trapped under the remains of the building.

The 7.7 7.7 magnification earthquake struck northwest of Mandalay early Friday afternoon, followed a few minutes later by a replica of 6.7 coarse.

The tremors destroyed the buildings, dropped the bridges and completed the roads in large areas of the Myanmar, with a massive destruction seen in Mandalay, the country’s second city and housing more than 1.7 million people.
