Scoots have become an increasingly popular mode of transport in women in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, offering a practical, affordable and stimulating mode to go to work.
With the increase in financial independence, the rise in life costs and inflation, women quickly turn to scooters as a reliable mode of transport.
Today, it is common to see the women who work and students travel on two-wheelers, navigating effortlessly in their daily trips as a cheaper and easier means of transport. Sania, who goes up with confidence scooty from her home to Rawalpindi Saddar to her workplace in Islamabad, says her scooty is the perfect mode of transport for travel to work. “It’s so practical and saves me so much time and money.” She says more than her scoty makes her feel independent and strong. “I love the feeling of freedom it gives me.”
Aneeta, a housewife, believes: “I use my scooty to take my children to school and go shopping.” She says that she cannot afford a car because she is family support for the family, and Scooty is a more affordable and accessible option for her.
Another Navetter Sara Jahangir says: “For me, the mornings can be chaotic and count on public transport can be a problem. But with my scooter, I found a change of game. It is a huge relief to have a reliable and practical mode of transport that brings me where I have to go quickly and without stress.”
She also mentions that scooters require less maintenance than cars, making it a profitable option for women. The scooters offer women freedom to travel wherever they want, when they wish, she maintains.
