The controversy struck the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) in an elimination match between the UCLA and the Tennessee on Sunday.
The first goal of Bruins, Megan Grant, came on the plate with two withdrawals and a runner on First and crushed a Karlyn Pickens volunteer launcher to equalize the game, at least everyone thought.

Grant finished third and headed for the house to celebrate with his teammates. She did not seem to touch the marble and a teammate had to bring her back to make sure she did it.
Tennessee challenged the race and the referees examined her to see if she touched the marble and if it was “assisted” to ensure that it has definitively contacted this. The university softball rules specify that a runner cannot be helped physically by a teammate to touch the plate.
“After examination, the field call is confirmed and the race will mark,” said the referee. “The runner missed the marble and was helped. However, this game is not revisable, according to Annex G.”
Annex G in the NCAA Softball Rules Book determines what is revisable.

It was a huge break for the Bruins because they were able to extend the game.
The Tennessee came at the bottom of the ninth and pushed a race through the plate to win the match, 5-4. The Laura interior field player, the meal, chose Taylor Pannell to win it.
Volunteers are now going to the next round and UCLA returns home. Tennessee faces Texas in the semi-finals on Monday. They have to beat the Longhorns twice to move to the championship.
Sofia Mujica and Alexis Ramirez of the UCLA each hit circuits for Bruins in defeat.
