- Proton has published emergency access, a functionality that allows users to choose trust contacts to access their accounts on their behalf
- Emergency access work through Proton VPN, Proton Mail, Proton Pass and Proton Drive
- This is a highly requested feature among the protons community, said the supplier
Make sure that no third party can never access your files, passwords or online activities is certainly crucial to protect your confidentiality and your safety, but it can complicate the recovery of important information in an emergency. So far – if you are a proton subscriber, at least.
Proton has just published emergency access, a functionality that allows paid users to designate up to five trust contacts to access their accounts on their behalf. Users have total control over the moment and the way in which trust contacts grant access.
One of the most requested features in the Proton community, explains the supplier, the emergency access work through Proton VPN, Proton Mail, Proton Pass and Proton Drive.
“Like all Proton products and features, access to emergencies has been designed with confidentiality and safety in mind and offers users an effective tool to add an additional insurance and peace of mind to their Proton account without compromising end -to -end encryption,” said the director of senior product accounts at Proton, Daniel Rivera Jäggi.
From today, on August 28, access to proton emergencies is available via the web browser for all paid users – regardless of the plan.
How to use Access to Proton emergencies
Taking advantage of access to proton emergencies could not be easier.
Everything you have to do is Head to your Proton account Dashboard via web browser and Select recovery, and then click on Add emergency contact.
To choose a confidence contact, you will need to add their email address. This must be associated with a Proton account, free or paid.
You can then fully customize how confidence contacts will enter your encrypted data by choosing the desired waiting time to grant access. You can also revoke or modify their contacts and emergency access settings at any time.
Your chosen trust accounts will receive an e-mail notification informing them that they have been chosen as emergency contact.
For all the details, you should go to the proton support page here.
Remember that you will have to go to a paid proton plan to be able to use the emergency access function.
