Several world leaders have expressed their concern and called for restraint after India attacked Pakistan early Wednesday, inviting an adapted response to the Islamabad armed forces.
The strikes mark a strong escalation of tensions between nuclear arms neighbors. Pakistan reported eight dead and has sworn reprisals.
The international community reacted quickly to developments, urging the two nations to avoid additional escalation and to prioritize dialogue.
US President Donald Trump
Speaking at the White House, President Donald Trump described India strikes as a “shame” and quickly urged hostilities.
“They have been fighting for many decades and centuries, in fact, if you really think about it … I just hope it will end very quickly,” said Trump.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio
Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoes Trump’s remarks on social networks.
“I closely monitor the situation between India and Pakistan. I echo the comments of Potus earlier in the day than that, hopefully, will end quickly and will continue to hire Indian and Pakistani management towards a peaceful resolution. ”
United Nations Secretary General
A spokesman for the UN Secretary General António Guterres said he was “very concerned” by India’s military actions through the control line.
“The secretary general calls for maximum military deduction from the two countries. The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan,” said the press release.
Japan
The chief secretary of the Japanese cabinet, Yoshimasa Hayashi, strongly sentenced the attack on April 22.
“We firmly express that this situation can degenerate into a large-scale military conflict,” he said, urging the two nations to pursue stability through dialogue.
United Arab Emirates
The Minister of Foreign Water Affairs Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan called for restraint and de -escalation.
“Diplomacy and dialogue remain the most effective way to peacefully resolve crises,” the government of water said in a statement.
France
The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, recognized India’s law for self-defense, but warned against a new escalation.
“We call on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint … and to protect civilians,” he said on TF1 television.
China
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the actions of “regrettable” India and urged the two parties to act in the interest of regional peace.
“Stay calm, exercise a reservoir and absorb to take measures that can further complicate the situation,” said the spokesperson.
Russia
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was “deeply concerned” and urged the two countries to avoid a new escalation.
“We call on India and Pakistan to show the restraint,” read a Moscow declaration.
