Riyadh:
The new World Water Organization (GWO) officially began its operations since its head office in Riyadh, following the signing of its founding charter by eight nations including Pakistan during an inaugural meeting in the Saudi capital.
According to a declaration from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) on Sunday, the launch event “marked an important step in promoting international collaboration to meet the global water challenges”.
The Federal Minister of Water Resources, Mueen Wattoo, represented Pakistan at the invitation of the Saudi Minister of the Environment Abdul Rahman Bin Abdul Mohsen al-Fadley to share the point of view of the country.
“Pakistan as well as other founding members have signed the Charter GWO, officially committing to the shared vision of the organization to strengthen international cooperation on water shortage, sustainable resource management and climate resilience, in particular in arid and water regions,” he said. According to the Saudi news agency, the organization brings together founding members of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Spain, Greece, Senegal, Pakistan and Mauritania, united by a common commitment to the sustainable management of water resources.
