- Xiaomi yu7 is monitoring of the SU7 massively popular sedan
- The huge panoramic hypervision display extends over the whole windshield
- Huge performance promised by the 680 hp electrical transmission
Hot on the heels of XIAOMI SU7, which sold nearly 30,000 units in China in a single month at its launch last year, the giant of smartphones and technology has impatiently announced.
Shipping elegant cross looks, not too different from the superb Taycan Sport Turismo model in Porsche, the Yu7 offers more indoor room and the additional practice of a larger and more accessible trunk. A generous 1,970 liters of total storage space is offered.
It is very cut to be a success of massive sales on its internal market in China, where it is presented to cause headache for Tesla, further eroding sales of the Y model in the country.
It depends on the fact that Xiaomi products have an almost cult status in China, but also because its dimensions are larger than the Y model, it loads faster and has a much larger range.
Xiaomi says that the YU7 will be available in three versions (Standard, Pro and Max), which can offer up to 519 miles of range on a single load or up to 680 hp in the most powerful versions – the 0-62 MPH sprint takes only 3.2 seconds in Max models.
In addition, the load only takes 12 minutes to reach a load state of 10 to 80% thanks to a high voltage platform architecture in 800 V.
But scratching the surface and Xiaomi has full of pistols with the technology offered, with the next generation of the AGX Thor IT platform from Nvidia offering serious digital firepower.
In addition to advanced levels of autonomous driving and active safety systems, the computing power also allows a plethora of screens and interior displays.
Xiaomi says that it is the first to offer a panoramic screen that extends over the entire width of the windshield. Hypervision panoramic display nicknamed, it “adapts intelligently” to different user scenarios.
The technological company says that it can offer speed and navigation directions in the driver’s line of view, but will also offer details of infotainment, including words in real time.
If all of this seems a little distracting, simply wait until you hear that the hypervision panoramic display can offer five categories of modular information, instrument readings and media controls with navigation and meteorological updates.
Xiaomi wanted the interior of the yu7 to imitate the cockpit of a hunting jet, with a myriad of information at the driver’s fingertips.
Passengers are also treated with screens, with siege backrest screens an optional supplement and an additional remote control panel integrated at the rear of the central console which allows rear passengers to support navigation or “entertainment management” tasks.
There is no current word on prices, but like the SU7, the last Xiaomi will only be on sale in China for the moment. This is probably a good thing for most rival manufacturers.
Analysis: The Y model of Tesla continues to be a target
Although the price is not official, the Xiaomi Yu7 would have arrived with a label which slightly underestimate the vehicle of the Y – Tesla model on a global scale and which has once dominated Chinese sales graphics.
According to The Verge, the founder, president of Xiaomi, and CEO Lei Jun responded to the news of a model refreshed there in China at the end of last year with a size comparison between the Yu7 and the popular Musk electric SUV. Heck, the new Xiaomi even has a “y” in his name.
It is clear that Chinese electric vehicles continue to target Tesla, trying to drop the brand with more affordable, more advanced and more practical electric vehicles.
Xiaomi has an even sharper edge, since it is one of the most recognizable names in technology and one of the largest smartphones manufacturers in the world. SU7 was often considered the apple car that was never and the big numbers bought it.
Since the YU7 offers even more, in particular the practical aspect of improving interior space and comfort, it is very likely that this will prove to be a huge commercial success.
Tesla, on the other hand, continues to discover sliding sales figures, both in China and further. Last month, Byd sold more electric cars than Tesla in Europe for the first time in its history.
