A major technical outage is currently affecting Yahoo and AOL services, disrupting access to emails and websites.
Millions of users are potentially affected. The widespread service outage began early on Wednesday, January 21, with an influx of user reports around 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
Users encounter an error message stating “Edge: Too many requests”. This suggests a likely failure of the backend server or network infrastructure.
Downdetector confirms the outage with a massive increase in reports, citing 17,000 for Yahoo services alone as of 10:12 a.m. Reports for Yahoo Mail topped 8,000 while AOL saw more than 4,700.
As of yet, neither Yahoo nor AOL have officially responded to the outage. The complaints ask for details via direct message, but do not offer a systemic explanation or an estimated time frame for restoration.
Affected users are advised to check the official pages for updated information and wait for service to be restored.
Previously, Internet users were affected by breakdowns at X (formerly Twitter) and Cloudflare which disrupted several companies around the world.
