Yankees Honor killed the Nypd officer with a moment of silence after shooting death

The New York Yankees held a moment of silence in honor of the NYPD officer Didarul Islam before the first launch of the Tuesday match with the Rays of Tampa Bay.

“Before tonight’s match, we held a moment of silence in Memoriam of the NYPD police officer Didarul Islam, who was tragically killed during the Midtown shooting,” wrote the Yankees on X.

An office building was the site of a mass shooting which left five dead, including Didarul, when a shooter unleashed fire inside before committing suicide.

The high -rise office tower is located on the 52nd Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan, a district that neighbor from the Bronx, the Yankee Stadium house.

“The whole organization of the Yankees sends their condolences to his family as well as to the families of the other victims of this insane act of violence,” concluded the press release from the Yankees.

The Yankees followed the Rays 3-0 in the third round on Tuesday evening.

Flags in government buildings across the city were placed in half-stuff Tuesday in honor of Islam, confirmed the mayor of New York, Eric Adams.

The building where the shooting took place houses the NFL headquarters.

In a memo obtained by PK Press Club Digital, the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that at least one NFL employee had been “seriously injured” but was listed in a stable state.

Goodell also thanked Islam for his sacrifice.

“We are deeply grateful to law enforcement officers who responded quickly and decisively to this threat and to the officer of Islam, who gave his life to protect others,” said the memo.

The 36 -year -old man was on the Force four years before being killed on Monday evening. He was a father married to two young boys, and his wife is pregnant with their third child, said NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Islam was assigned to the 47th district of NYPD in the Bronx. He was one of the two uniform officers in the Park Avenue building when the shooting occurred.

NYPD said Islam “represented the best in our department”.

“He protected the New York from danger when his life was tragically shortened today,” added the NYPD. “We join prayer during this incomprehensible period of pain. We will forever honor its inheritance.”
