- Google has launched Gemini Home Screen Widgets for Android and iOS devices
- Widgets allow users to access Gemini AI features with a single tap
- Widgets are customizable and allow users to prioritize their most used Gemini actions
If you like to use Google Gemini on your smartphone, but find yourself tedious to draw several times to access the function you want, Google has covered you. The technology giant began to deploy Gemini home screen widgets for Android and iOS. This means that a single tap can go directly into a conversation with Gemini, open the microphone for a voice conversation, share a file with the AI, or even take a photo with the camera that will go right to Gemini.
The deployment occurs gradually but largely. If you run Android 10 or higher, you can already add the gemini widget by pressing your home screen for a long time, pressing “widgets”, finding gemini in the list and making it drag wherever you want it to live. For iOS 17 and more, it is a similar story: keep your home screen until the icons are used, press the button Plus, look for gemstones and add your choice widget. You can also personalize it by pressing it again for a long time and by exchanging shortcuts or by reorganizing the actions appearing first, such as the microphone for vocal cats or the button of the camera for visual research.
This update is not necessarily revolutionary, but it testifies to the way many people could use Gemini for activities or short tasks, but do not want to immerse themselves more than necessary.
If you use gemini every day to ask questions, create funny images, plan travel or think about emails, it could make access to AI a little more practical. The fact that it is also closer to how Siri and the rapidly assistant rapid dissolution function is probably not a coincidence.
These are not the first gemini’s mobile widgets either. Google published very similar gemini widgets a few months ago for the iPhone Lockscreen. Although functionally very similar, they are technically a different form of widget. Google gradually deploys the gemini widget from the home screen in next week, you can only have the variant of locking screen available now.
Widgets also offer an overview of Google’s strategy to infuse gemini in our daily life. They want people to think of AI as not only something you call occasionally, but as a daily tool that is instantly and easily accessible. Instead of hiding in the background, Gemini becomes a part of the interface.
Starting with mobile devices is an intelligent decision so that Gemini feel more like a basic service. Many people first try new technological features and new products on mobile devices, not on their laptops or office computers. If they like it on a mobile device, this may result in the use of the office. And if you are going to use the AI on your phone, it should be fast and relaxed, such as checking the weather or time.
Gemini’s widgets are basic enough at the moment, but they have established the more complex widget bases to come. Imagine a future widget that surfaces the conversations in progress so that you can finish an interrupted project, or which shows updates in real time from personalized subjects that you follow, or even offers proactive suggestions according to your habits.
Overall, these new widgets concern less the bells and whistles and more on the withdrawal of friction. They aim to give Gemini a faster and more native path in your daily habits, whether on Android or iPhone. The widget can be the gem area to answer each small request that AI assistant can manage.
