- Nintendo brings the virtual boy back, his worst console, for any reason
- Virtual boys’ games arrive at Nintendo Switch online and will require a dedicated accessory
- It looks like a recreation from the virtual boy, with a slit for the Nintendo Switch 2
The last Nintendo Direct has officially ended, and I can only assume that the Japanese game giant has lost the plot.
Of course, it was absolutely full of incredible revelations, going from Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Compilation to a whole new Fire emblem Game, but an ad let me scratch my head.
Society officially brings the virtual boy – an old oddity widely considered one of the worst consoles ever published.
A first attempt at virtual reality, it was released in 1995 and was a gigantic critical and commercial failure. Looking like a pair of strange lobster glasses, the helmet was embarrassing to use, massively expensive and could only sadly play titles in red and black.
He sold less than 800,000 units and was interrupted in less than a year, so I cannot imagine what owned Nintendo to bring him back from the dead.
As confirmed in the presentation, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will be able to play virtual boys selected from February 17, 2026.
Playing them will require a dedicated accessory, shaped after the infamous system. It looks like an almost exact, but presents a new niche in which you can insert the Nintendo Switch 2, where it will apparently act like the console screen.
A cardboard version separated from the accessory will also be offered. Although there is not yet an official word on prices, it seems sure to assume that the paper variant will be much cheaper.
There will be a large total of 14 games offered, which is a massive part of its library if we consider that the system has only obtained a total of 22 games around the world.
