- The PCs will be “the standard” by 2029, says Gartner
- American rates cause winds, but it could be temporary
- Prices also drop, so that companies can splash
IA PCs will represent almost a third (31%) of the World PC market by the end of 2025, with around 77.8 million units that should be shipped, new figures said.
This growth does not show any signs of slowdown, with PCs compatible with AI which should dominate the market with a share of 55% next year (equaling 143 million units), the latest Gartner figures said.
Taking into account the refreshing cycles and market trends, Garnter says that PCs will be “the standard” by 2029 in the workplace and houses.
The PCs are gaining popularity by the year
The figures show that this segment of the PC market has already doubled since 2024 (15.6% against 31%) – laptops remain a firm favorite, AI laptops having more than double the market than AI office computers.
Gartner’s principal director’s principal analyst, Ranjit Atwal, said that the adoption has slowed down a bit due to the rates induced by geopolitics, “users will invest in IA PCs to ensure that they are prepared for the growing integration of the AI at the cutting edge.”
The principal analyst of Canalys Ben Yeh agreed: “The evolving tariff policies of the Trump administration continue to reshape the global supply chains on PCs while throwing significant uncertainty on the resumption of the market.”
Distinct research from Canalys noted that AI compatible PCs had reached a market share of 23% by the fourth quarter of 2024 – up on the average of 17% of the full year.
This adoption has been helped by the fact that PCs IA are starting to go to bed on the market after a few iterations – for example, Apple M Computers are considered to be AI compatible. Upon five years old, prices have dropped, democratizing access to consumers to powerful machines.
For the future, Gartner predicts other developments to allow several small models of language to perform locally on IA PCs by the end of 2026, against zero in 2023.
