The code identified in the latest Pixel Watch application for Android suggests that there is a new feature on the way to Google Pixel Watch 3 and Plus models: the possibility of automatically locking your phone when it is out of reach of your smartwatch.
This code was found by the Android Authority team, and although it has not yet been activated – and there is no word on when it could be – the functionality would be a useful safety upgrade if you combine a pixel watch with an Android smartphone.
The idea is that if someone had to slip your phone without you knowing it, or if you have to leave your handset without realizing it, you would have the assurance that your phone automatically blocks.
According to the newly discovered code, this functionality could be called “locking on disconnection” or something in this direction. With a small adjustment, a user has managed to reveal the parameter in its Pixel Watch application.
This is not something that is currently offered by any other laptop at the moment – including the best Apple watches – although you can of course lock an Android phone at any time using the Google Find My Device service.
Without an official announcement on this functionality, it is difficult to predict when we could see it deployed. Nothing has been said at the recent Google I / O 2025 conference, but Google tends to deploy software updates throughout the year.
Presumably, once the feature is put online for Pixel watch devices, it could then be pushed into the operating system use code. This would then allow portable devices like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra to take advantage of it.
What you can already do with your Pixel watch is to use it to unlock your smartphone: so if the watch is nearby, you don’t need to keep unlocking your phone. It would be a useful additional function to add to this, once it will eventually take place.
