- The next Pixel Feature Drop could arrive on November 4
- This could include theme packs to change the way your phone looks and sounds.
- It can also let you create animated GIFs and stickers, and prioritize certain notifications.
If you own a Pixel phone, you don’t need to wait for new versions of Android to benefit from new features, as Google regularly releases Pixel-specific “Feature Drops.” And the next of these updates could include major upgrades for the best Pixel phones.
Leaker group Mystic Leaks (via 9to5Google) shared screenshots and videos showing off rumored upcoming features, including theme packs, custom animations, and prioritized notifications.
Perhaps the most interesting of these is the theme packs, which with just one click will apply a wallpaper along with corresponding icons, GIFs and sounds. Initially, it seems that Villain: for good A theme pack will be released, consisting of the themes ‘For Good’, ‘Glinda’ and ‘Elphaba’, but we hope more packs will follow.
If so, this could be an easy way to dramatically change the look of your Pixel phone’s interface.
Create GIFs and give people the VIP treatment
Then there’s the ability to turn an image or Pixel Studio creation into a GIF or animated sticker, and finally, there’s an update to the Pixel VIP feature, which will ensure that messages sent by people you designate as “VIP” will have their notifications highlighted in yellow and the person’s contact photo visible in the status bar.
The goal here is to make these messages easier to spot, so you don’t miss them among an influx of notifications – but note that this feature only works with messages sent via WhatsApp and Google Messages.
Either way, it seems like a pretty good mix of upgrades, and the Feature Drop could be coming soon, with the leak suggesting a November 4 release.
But until this update actually rolls out, we’d take these rumors with a pinch of salt, because while the images look believable, it hasn’t been long since the last Pixel Feature Drop. Additionally, as 9to5Google notes, we also expect to see Android 16 QPR2 land before the end of the year, and this will also include a number of new features. So the supposed timing of this feature is a bit strange.
